S.S.S. Inc., a subsidiary of Wayne B. Smith, Inc, operates a limestone quarry onsite. The Burlington limestone formation is quarried from the top of the hills on the west side of Highway 79. The limestone is crushed and screened to make a variety of products from shot rock, several sizes of rip rap (US Army Corps of Engineers approved) to gradations suitable for base, asphalt, concrete, and many more uses. This limestone is also a high calcium stone utilized locally in agriculture, regionally in the production of cement, and even barged to the southern U.S. for industrial uses. Larger stones and boulders are used for decorative enhancements.
